Single family housing starts rise 6 percent in March

Single family starts were up 6 percent in March over February across the country, according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Census Bureau. Nationally, single family housing starts in March were 635,000; in February, that number was 599,000. 

NAHB's Chief Economist David Crowe, observed, "The report is in line with our forecast of a gradual strengthening in the housing sector in 2014," observed David Crowe, NAHB chief economist. "However, several uncertainties, including tight credit conditions for homebuyers and erratic job growth are making builders cautious about getting ahead of demand."

Building permits for single family homes were 592,000, a .5 percent increase over February's 589,000 permits. Regionally, the west remained unchanged in permits pulled for March. Read more...
