With the help of volunteers from Wells Fargo and funding from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Colorado-Wyoming Chapter (NMSS), the Home Builders Foundation (HBF) installed a wheelchair ramp for Thornton resident Darlene H.

Darlene was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2003. As the MS progressed, she began to use a walker. In 2015, she broke her ankle in a fall and went into a physical therapy rehab center. While in physical therapy, Darlene broke her hip; moving forward she will use a both a wheelchair and walker.  Because of the stairs leading into her home, it was now impossible for Darlene to enter and exit her home independently.  

Darlene’s caseworker at NMSS referred her to the HBF. After completing the application for assistance, the HBF rounded up support from Alpine Lumber (lumber), Jackson Design Build (permitting), Ross Theilen, Weyerhaeuser (Project Captain) and six volunteers from Wells Fargo to build a ramp for Darlene. The retail value of this ramp is $3,500, but thanks to the support of all involved, the project was completed at no cost to Darlene and her family.
