CAHB announces departure of CEO Scott Smith

Whiton praises Smith’s Contributions

The Colorado Association of Home Builders announced today that Scott Smith, CEO of the statewide association, will be transitioning to the private sector to become the CEO of ProTerra, LLC, a real estate management and development firm located in Monument. Smith will remain as CEO of the CAHB until October 9, and the association is in the process to identify a new CEO.

Jeff Whiton, CEO of the Home Builders Association, commented, “ Scott’s political acumen will be missed. He was very active in influencing public policy that supports the economic impact of the home building industry. We are glad that he will continue to lend his expertise as a member of the state association in key roles. Scott enhanced CAHB’s stature as an effective political voice.”

“Scott has been dedicated to our association’s mission: Creating and maintaining a positive business environment for the Colorado housing industry to ensure the development of quality housing to meet the needs of the people of Colorado,” said Bruce Rau of Oakwood Homes, the current board chairman for the CAHB. “Scott has helped re-unify the association and solidify the association’s leadership on several issues, including construction-defects reform legislation, oil and gas and land-use policies, and water and environmental issues.”

Smith has been the CEO of the Colorado Association of Home Builders for the past three years. He has more than 30 years of solid experience managing master planned community development in Colorado Springs. Smith was the 1995 president of the CAHB and has served on the Governmental Affairs Committee for several years. He has also been engaged in the Colorado Springs HBA as a past president and has been the chair of the Public Policy Council and Political Action Committee. He served as a Director of the National Association of Home Builders. Smith, a Colorado native, is a graduate of CU Boulder and a Certified Public Accountant.

Smith will continue to hold leadership roles in the CAHB by joining the Board of Directors and participating on the Executive, Governmental Affairs and Political committees.

“Over the past three years, the association has effectively established itself as the leading voice for our industry, our members and, most importantly, homeowners across the state,” Smith said. “There remains much work to be done on behalf of the association to educate elected officials, policy makers, community leaders and the public about the importance of a strong and diverse housing market and to ensure that our voices are heard as decisions are made that impact the affordability, location and safety of our homes. I am looking forward to remaining a part of this important dialogue.”
