10 Reasons to Join
10 Reasons to Join

For decades, the HBA has been members' one-stop resource for news, building science advances, professional development, networking and events in the homebuilding industry. Here's why it makes sense to join the local association that's backed by the power and influence of the Colorado Association of Home Builders and the National Association of Home Builders (see #7 for more on that).

1. It's the collective voice of our industry

Regulatory activities and changes routinely challenge homebuilders’ businesses and ability to provide affordable housing for homebuyers. A key component of the HBA’s commitment to members is to defend the homebuilding industry against harm in our eight-county, 32-municipality region. As such, the HBA has a seat at the table whenever issues that can affect the homebuilding are on the menu.

And the HBA’s political action committee, the Metro Housing Coalition, vets and supports local and statewide candidates who will support a vibrant and affordable housing industry.

2. Stay up to date with your professional education

From sales and marketing to building construction, management principles or general business, the HBA offers professional designation and continuing education programs for every staff level in your business.

3. Build valuable relationships

From big events — such as Industry Product Night, and the Parade of Homes Industry Night — to smaller ones, including barbeques and breakfasts, the HBA offers you a wide range of networking opportunities to build strong, long-lasting relationships.

4. Cash in on discount programs

Through the HBA, CAHB and NAHB, take advantage of deep discounts on services vital to running your business. These members-only values range from general liability and workers’ comp insurance to cell phone and IT services, office supplies, payroll, human services — and more.

5. Keep up to date with vital information

The best way for you to stay competitive is to be well informed. HBA members keep up with industry changes — from technological innovations to green building practices, code changes and leading edge marketing strategies — through this website, seminars, special interest councils, and building permit reports.

6. Get recognized by your peers

In any industry, recognition and acknowledgement by peers is one of the highest forms of praise. The HBA’s award programs are no exception. Our MAME and CARE awards honor members who stand out and their notable accomplishments. Winners often then showcase these awards in their sales and marketing efforts, as a way to stand apart from their competitors.

7. Three-for-one membership

When you join the HBA, you’re automatically a member of the Colorado Association of Home Builders — the CAHB — and the National Association of Home Builders — the NAHB. That means there are three organizations who keep your well being top of mind. These three associations are always quick to support your business and defend it from harmful regulatory or legislative changes.

8. Give back — and feel good about doing it

If you've ever worked on a Home Builders Foundation project, you know just how good it feels to build something for someone who really appreciates what you do. The Home Builders Foundation is the preferred charity of the HBA that makes homes handicap accessible — from ramps to entire remodels — so people who have suffered a trauma and become handicapped can continue to live in their homes.

9. Stay in the know through special publications

The HBA also publishes three periodic e-newsletters, so you can stay on top of association and regulatory activities:

     •   Pulse on the Industry email Newsletter provides you with a periodic digest of important stories shared on hbadenver.com
     •   Home Builder Advocate ereports on the association’s response to proposed regulatory activities or changes
     •   Home Builder Events bi-weekly emails keep you up to date with HBA events and activities
     •   In addition, as a member, you can download white papers, policy statements and technical guides for more information on a particular topic

10. Become an industry leader

When you serve on an HBA committee or council, you have the chance to grow your leadership skills. And because your local HBA membership also means you’re a member of the CAHB and the NAHB, there are plenty of opportunities to serve on statewide and national councils, too. Serving on councils and committees boosts your visibility within the industry, along with your own awareness of how you’re shaping the future of homebuilding throughout the metro Denver area, Colorado and the country.
