CSU Chancellor Emeritus to speak at Spring General Membership Meeting

Joe Blake is currently Chancellor Emeritus of the Colorado State University system. When he served the CSU System as the first sole chancellor he managed the System’s legislative operations, worked with the Board of Governors to support the presidents of Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CSU-Pueblo and CSU Global Campus and worked to help secure a more sustainable funding commitment for higher education in Colorado.

Prior to servicing the CSU System Joe was President and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce from 1999 to 2009. From 1980 to 1999 Joe was part of the Mission Viejo Company Senior Management team that created and developed the Highlands Ranch community in Douglas County, Colorado. Highlands Ranch is one of Colorado’s premier planned communities and is home today for more than 100,000 residents. During his time with Mission Viejo Company Joe was President of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver in 1987.

Joe was also a part of the initial Region VIII office of the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Denver. He served as Regional Counsel, Deputy Regional Administrator and Acting Regional Administrator. He was Legislative Assistant to U. S. Senator Gordon Allott (R-Colo.) in Washington. He was also a special agent of the FBI following graduation from law school. 

He has served on the CSU Board of Governors, the Colorado Baseball Commission and was a member and chair of the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and the Colorado Transportation Commission. Recognition for his past civic and community service include induction into the 2017 Colorado Business Hall of Fame, the

2015 Denver Business Journal Legacy Award, the El Pomar Foundation Community Leadership Award, the Boy Scouts Distinguished Eagle Award and the Del Hock Lifetime Achievement Award from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. He is a Life-time Trustee of the Denver Area boy Scouts.

A Denver native, Joe is a graduate of East High School, Dartmouth College and the University of Colorado, School of Law. He is the father of two children, Anne and Joe Jr., and the grandfather of four grandsons.
