Regulated Utilities Committee

What RU can do for you, What can you do for RU?

The Regulated Utilities Committee (RUC) is a forum for HBA members to discuss land development, home building and utility coordination issues. Committee members work hard to maintain good relationships with local dry utility representatives, including Black Hills Energy, Xcel Energy, IREA, United Power, CenturyLink, Comcast and AT&T.

Quarterly, local dry utility representatives participate with HBA members in discussions regarding development-related issues, including costs, material specs., timing, regulations, etc.

The 2nd quarter Regulated Utilities meeting was held June 7th. Jeb French and Heath Buster, representatives from Xcel Energy Damage Control, presented a short PowerPoint presentation regarding the recently passed Colorado Senate Bill SB 18-167: Enforce Requirements 811 Locate Underground Facilities (https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb18-167). This presentation is available on the RU web page. Jeb and Heath will return with updates for the December (6th) quarterly meeting.

Because an association can only be as effective as the members who serve, taking an active role, and volunteering on various committees is vitally important to the health and longevity of the association. Often, committee and council members set the stage for the policy agenda and other association objectives established and executed by the Board of Directors. There is one position open on the 2019 Regulated Utilities Board. Apply to be a leader in the industry, contact Denise McNeill dmcneill@hbadenver.com or RUC Committee Chair Dan Galasso Dan.Galasso@centurycommunities.com for information on how to join the RUC Committee.

You are invited to attend the next Regulated Utilities meeting is September 6th at 10:00 in the Education Room. Topics for the third quarter meeting will include a presentation by United Power regarding system changes and a potential presentation by Site Wise regarding their relationship with Xcel and the work they perform independently.
