HOME BUILDERS FOUNDATION BUILDS 17 RAMPS IN THREE DAYS

The Home Builders Foundation (HBF) executed the 6th annual Blitz Build and brought together over 200 volunteers to build wheelchair ramps for 17 Denver metro residents in just three days.

This year’s Blitz Build recipients range in age from 9 months to 77 years old. Projects were completed in Arvada, Aurora, Centennial, Denver, Lakewood, Parker, Superior, Thornton and Wheat Ridge. While each has a unique situation that led them to need a ramp, what they have in common is the desire to enter and exit their own homes safely.

The HBF is the Home Builders Association’s charity of choice. Once again this year, the HBA supported the Blitz Build event with many of its members serving as crews, sponsors and/ or crew supporters. These companies include, but are not limited to: Presenting Sponsor McStain Neighborhoods, David Weekley Homes, Larsen Development, Colorado Construction Institute, Epic Homes, Alpine Lumber, ProBuild, Boise Cascade, BlueLinx, Universal Forest Products, Van Dyk Construction, TRI Pointe Homes, GJ Gardner, CR Gardner, Precision Building Systems and the HBA’s Professional Women in Building Council.

The retail value of the work completed during the Blitz Build is over $63,000. Thanks to all involved, especially to the event’s Presenting Sponsor McStain Neighborhoods, and Bluelinx, who donated all the decking, the work was completed at no cost to the HBF.  Based on financial contributions made by Blitz Build supporters, it is anticipated the event will raise more than $20,000 to allow the HBF to complete future accessible home modifications for deserving recipients.

“The Blitz Build began 6 years ago as a way to address a backlog of projects and engage volunteers. The first year, we completed 7 ramps with a handful of volunteers. It has been amazing to watch this event grow to serve so many recipients by utilizing over 200 volunteers.” Beth Forbes, Executive Director of the HBF
