New initiatives to focus on labor shortage and education
DENVER, December 3, 2015 – The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver (HBA) has elected Craig Campbell as its 2016 president. Campbell is vice president of Starwood Land Ventures’ western division and manages master-planned communities throughout Colorado and Arizona.
More than 150 HBA members attended the Installation and Recognition Reception held last night at Palazzo Verdi in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
“I am honored to be the 2016 president of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver,” Campbell said. “I look forward to maximizing the value of advocacy, education and networking for our members and the public at large. Along with these core values, my main focus will be on the labor shortage and how our apprenticeship program can help overcome labor challenges within the industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the new HBA Trade Council to help create awareness of these issues, and provide support for training and education for both non-skilled and under-skilled trades.”
Other 2016 Senior Board members include: President Elect Karl Knapp, CVL Consultants; Vice President-Secretary, Scott Moberg, Scott Allen Development; and Vice President-Treasurer, Gary Okonowski, DR Horton.
In addition, nine other directors were elected. They include: Cheryl Schuette, Larsen Development; Pat Hamill, Oakwood Homes; Peter Benson, Koelbel & Co.; John Vitella, Century Communities; Matt Mandino, KB Home; James Spehalski, Marathon Land; Bill Rectanus, Thrive Home Builders; Scott Sinelli, David Weekley Homes; and Eric Eckberg.
Campbell brings more than two decades of experience to the real estate and home building industry. Before joining Starwood Land Ventures, he held executive positions with such homebuilders as MDC Holdings, KB Home, Taylor Morrison, and Standard Pacific Homes. He earned a master’s degree in finance from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s in economics/finance from CU Boulder’s Leeds School of Business.
Campbell added that he plans a renewed focus on education, which will include developing and strengthening current programs through a new foundation to be named “HBA University.” He said this will increase opportunities and designations for all HBA members, including more continuing education classes and partnerships with local and national housing-related entities.
