The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Metro Denver in partnership with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), awarded Shea Homes the highest honor bestowed under the HomeSafe Colorado Partnership. By bringing a cooperative, focused and voluntary effort to ensure a safe and healthful environment for all personnel at construction sites, Shea Homes has become the first and only builder to obtain Level 3 Master Builder status this year.

The HomeSafe Colorado Partnership between the HBA and OSHA was created to encourage employers in the residential homebuilding industry to strive for accident free jobsites, through effective safety and health training, job site audits and enforcement. There are three levels of participation for homebuilders and contractors, Level 1: Apprentice, Level 2: Journeyman, and Level 3: Master Builder.

“The Partnership Agreement between OSHA and the HBA of Metro Denver is a nationally recognized and award winning safety program. The successful implementation of this program by the home builders and trade contractors that make up the Jobsite Safety/HomeSafe Committee locally within the HBA is impressive. This committee embraces OSHA representation at their monthly meetings and regularly produces high quality residential construction safety programs with a profound level of safety commitment,” states Chérie Talbert, Senior Vice President, HBA of Metro Denver.

In pursuit of achieving the highest level possible, Shea Homes had employees attend the Home Safe Colorado Safety Orientation Training Program, Home Safe Colorado Field Focus Four Training Program and the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Course. In addition to the required educational course, a jobsite audit was conducted by the HBA of Metro Denver’s Jobsite Committee, along with an OSHA non-enforcement verification inspection.

The team at Shea Homes is thrilled to achieve this recognition. “Obtaining the Master Builder Award has been a significant honor for Shea Homes. The award has allowed Shea Homes to embrace what we strive for day after day and that is a ‘Nobody Gets Hurt Today’ mindset,” said Jeff Palumbo, Safety and Environmental Manager, Shea Homes.

Shea Homes will remain at the Master Builder level for the remainder of this calendar year and through the end of 2016.
