Another Colorado city passes construction defects reform ordinance

The City Council of Commerce City on Monday became the latest Denver-metro city to approve an ordinance altering the way the state's construction defects law works within city limits.

The ordinance was unanimously approved and will apply to new construction within the city after Aug. 1. The ordinance is needed to encourage diverse housing options to better serve Commerce City's diverse population, the city said in a release.

"As the state's fourth-fastest growing community, having a variety of housing options within the city is critical to meeting our vision of a quality community for a lifetime," said Mayor Sean Ford. "Commerce City has not approved a new condominium or multi-family project since 2008. I am hopeful that our action this evening will spur new conversations with our industry partners to meet the needs of our diverse 51,762 residents."  Read the article
