The Flatirons Building Council (FBC) of the Home Builders Association of Denver (HBA), hosted a robust panel discussion with both small private builders and large public builders. Mike Rinner, senior vice president of Meyers Research, LLC, moderated the conversation from the various builder perspectives to over 100 builders and associate members last week. The information was well received by attendees who gained insight as to the pros and cons of being a big builder verses small, and the benefits and challenges that each experience.

The esteemed panel consisted of Dan Nickless, Cal Atlantic Homes; Mark Bailey, Toll Brothers; David Ware, McStain Neighborhoods and Chris Presley, Epic Homes. They spoke on various topics such as affordable or attainable housing, the trade shortage, vendor relationships, financing challenges, and design capabilities. Benefits of the larger builder consisted of lower costs with national suppliers, better land positioning and financing. Whereas the smaller private builders, are nimble and can accommodate more design personalization within the home and for a niche market.
