All Council Kick-Off An Inspirational Start to 2017

On January 26th 2017, the HBA held its first ever all council kick-off event at the stunning Cable Center on the University of Denver campus. In an effort to encourage deeper collaboration, participation, and camaraderie amongst the HBAs several councils and ultimately all HBA members, the celebration was a memorable start to 2017. With well over 350 current and soon to be HBA council members in attendance, the night was an amazing success for the HBA.

As guests arrived, mixed and mingled, The Beaus entertained with their incredible and harmonious blend of live string instruments played amongst a classic rock background.
The evening began with a huge thank you to the many generous sponsors of the event including Title Sponsor AquaSan Network, and HBA Leading Sponsors Wells Fargo.

Jeff Whiton then kicked the night off with a thank you to all the HBA members and staff, along with recognizing the Council Board executive committee who was responsible for planning the evening’s festivities.  Angela Harris, Council Board Chair followed with an introduction to the 2017 Chairs for the seven HBA councils which include: Cindy Bell, Flatirons Building Council; Jennifer Williams, Sales & Marketing Council; Vice-chair Garrett Vap, Trade Council; Hope Marie Sneed, Professional Women in Building Council; Sarah McDaniel, Custom Builder & Remodeler Council; Chris Armenta, Associate Member Council; and Lauren Karsh, Young Leaders Council. The 2017 Chairs each gave an insightful overview of their councils mission and their agendas for the year ahead.

Highlighted by the unique and elegant backdrop of the venue, the keynote speaker of the night, David Miles of Milesbrand and Strategus, motivated the crowd with his talk “Creativity and the Dawn of the Conceptual Age.” Miles highlighted the current shift in thinking and the emerging “conceptual age” wherein the world will be run by right-brain thinking. He focused on the new, in-demand skills of the 21st century, which include creativity, intuitiveness, empathy, and the ability to find meaning and beauty in all things.

All in all, the night brought together people from all facets of the homebuilding industry in a celebration of the year ahead. The HBA demonstrated an exceptional show of solidarity amongst its many councils, leaders, and members.
