The HBA reports that new home building activity for the first two months of the year rose 8 percent in the Denver metro area, according to Inside Real Estate News. In January and February, 1,078 permits were issued, compared with 996 for the same time period last year. In February, 588 permits were pulled, up 11.82 percent from last February.

And townhome building was on the rise; 215 permits were issued in the first two months, compared with 177 last year. In February alone, permits pulled were 42.6 percent higher than that of a year ago. Jeff Whiton, president & CEO, observed that the appetite is increasing for townhomes, particularly in central Denver communities where land is available. "Builders like New Town Builders and KB Home are having great success with infill townhomes," Whiton said.

And while abysmally small — and we all know why — 24 condo permits were issued in the first two months, up from 16 during the same period last year. 

Whiton expects the new home permit numbers to continue increasing through the summer and help fill the vacuum created by the shortage of resale homes in the market. Read more...
