The NAHB reported that the Remodeling Market Index rose to 57 at the end of the third quarter. This was the highest reading since 2004 and any number above 50 reflects that more remodelers reported activity was higher than in the previous quarter. Three major components comprise the score: Major additions and alterations, minor additions and repairs and maintenance and repair. The third quarter showed the first segment increased from 51 to 55, minor additions and repairs rose from 55 to 58 and the third segment increased from 57 to 59.
The RMI's current market index conditions rose from 54 in the previous quarter to 58, the highest reading since it was created in 2001. This increase was partly driven by rising existing home sales.
