How did you get started in your career?
By growing up on a farm and ranch in Montana which gave me great skills in understanding business. I have done everything from banking to running a large branch in a fortune 500 company. I've had great training along the way, but I always say that training is a 50/50 proposition. You need to be willing to learn in order to be trained well.
Has there been someone along the way that you credit with helping you to get where you are? And why?
Many people have helped me along the way. I have found that asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. I would like to recognize Ed Meier of Capco Tile and John Theilen at Roth Distributing as individuals that have been great mentors.
What do you love about the Home Building industry?
I love the Home Building industry mostly because of the people. We are all working toward a common goal, to help our customer build their dream house. Everyone strives to work together as a team and most are willing to do whatever it takes. I also love the charitable side of the industry with HBF, Habitat for Humanity, HomeAid and others that extend their abilities to provide help to those less fortunate.
Tell us three things about yourself that people do not know?
Most people do not know that I used to be a repo man. I enjoy road biking, even though I may not have the body type. That is probably why the frames tend to crack or break over time. I am proud to have a son in the Air Force and a very creative daughter living here in Denver.
Anything else you would like to share?
My wife Jamie is an executive at a local hospital, so we spend lots of time in Winter Park to de-stress.
