News and Updates

The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver publishes several publications that give members the must-have information they need to make well-informed business decisions.

White papers and policy statements

The HBA also occasionally publishes white papers or position statements on key issues that affect the housing industry.

  • Water Use, Water Conservation, Water Development & the Home Building Industry.  The 2002 drought, and the subsequent dry years, reinforced how critical responsible management and development of our water resources are to sustaining Colorado's quality of life and one of the most desirable places to live, work and raise a family. This white paper was written to help inform elected officials throughout the metro Denver area about the facts and myths of the homebuilding industry's residential water use.

  • HBA policy statement on Water Tap Fees. This policy was createad to provide a minimum standard by which the HBA evaluates increases in system development charges (tap fees) when such increases are proposed by water utilities.

Guides and manuals

The HBA also writes manuals or guides that offer valuable guidance for both HBA members and homebuyers.

Research

The HBA also commissions housing industry-related research. Along with the Urban Land Conservancy, in June 2010, the HBA commissioned a study from the NAHB's Housing Policy department to research the local economic impact of low income housing tax-credit developments along metro Denver transit corridors. The results were presented to local policy makers and public officials, along with for- and non-profit developers. Key findings included:

  • The estimated one-year metro area impacts of building 615 tax-credit apartments in the ten-county Denver metropolitan statistical area (MSA) include:
    • $57.6 million in local income
    • $5 million in taxes and other revenue for local governments
    • 732 local jobs

  • The additional, annually recurring impacts of building 615 tax-credit apartments in the Denver MSA include:
    • $16.7 million in local income
    • $2.3 million in taxes and other revenue for local goverments
    • 192 local jobs
